Who would be interested in running the LA Marathon in 2014? That could be a good long-long-term goal...
In the meantime, while I'm not officially participating in this challenge, I will do what I can to follow its objectives and track results. That in itself is my goal, and if I can get from 185ish to 175ish, that would be great too.
Alright, boyos, here's my goal for the fitness challenge. In the later stages of grad school, I was working out six days per week in the gym and was at my most fit (which, admittedly, was still not at all fit). I think I was around 180 pounds, just like Wu before his wedding. Then my work ethic deteriorated, and I exercised less and less. More recently, my weight was decent because I was running a lot with Soo, but since January or so I haven't been running very much. That, plus eating too much, brought my weight up to almost 205 by the time I got back from India. I'm back down to 198 now (just like Wu), and want to keep moving down in the right direction. I feel like it'll give me more energy, and I just liked the way I felt when I was running a lot or going to the gym a lot.
One goal is to get down to 185 during the fitness challenge, but I want to do it in a way that I'm replacing fat with muscle. With that in mind, my second goal is to improve dramatically on push-ups and pull-ups. I haven't tested myself on these yet, but my guess is that I could do around 20 push-ups in two minutes and maybe 5 pull-ups (or less). I'd like to double both. I'd also like to hit a 7.5 minute mile, which is probably about a minute less than my current pace.
